I still recall the memorable moments of reunion dinner at my maternal grandmother's house on the eve of Chinese New Year. The first thing my siblings and I did was to greet my elders and wish them well. My cousins and I were elated to see each other once again when we met at my grandmother's house. I chatted happily with them until the elders called us to gather for "lou hei" or tossing fish salad and the steam boat. We had abalone, jellyfish, prawns and many more dishes. It was scrumptious. Later, my cousins played games with me and my siblings. We were having a whale of a time until we had to go home early as we were going to spend the whole afternoon at my paternal grandparent's house tomorrow.
On New Year's day, we left at 12 noon and set off to my paternal grandparents' house It was mostly elders there. We ate our lunch there, which consisted of "abacus" yam dough, vegetables and mushrooms, not to mention abalone too. Well, we did the same things there - eat, play and talk. At the end of the day, we were tired but satisfied all the same. These happy memories will always be etched in my mind.
